Some pre-existing health conditions are more harmful than others, which ones and how harmful?
We should study the infected, sick and deaths:
- per year, from zero to 90 etc.
- those who are between 0-2 years old, >2-4 years old, etc.
- those who are between 0-5 years old, >5-10 years old, etc.
It cannot be that we give each citizen the same treatment, when they are not the same:
- neither in infections
- nor in the ability to infect
- nor in capacity to be infected
- nor in the capacity to get sick
- nor in mortality
Locking everyone up equally when we are different and when the treatment for each should be different is not equal treatment, it is very unsophisticated treatment, and that is harming all of us, even the vulnerable.
As with different illnesses, the treatments are and should be different and that does not mean that there are different classes of citizens.
Even without these studies some things can be said.
Children are not necessarily a danger to society and should go to school immediately. In other words, schools must be opened now! Obviously teachers must be healthy and they must receive tests to be able to return to their positions.
The additional advantages of open schools are that parents do not have stay be at home just because they have to babysit their children and, very importantly, there is the positive impact for children of returning to their necessary life, with learning and friends and, for some, to be able to eat better with school meals.
Parents and other adults should also return to work, always with the required safety measures, in distance and with masks. For that we need an educational campaign to teach adults about the need for masks and what distance is as, seeing our streets, they do not have these things clear.
All this will allow the not insignificant benefit that the economy would start immediately and return to its normal growth path much sooner, generating resources, to finance the essential plans to respond to the needs of the vulnerable. Plans that do not exist today and with some points below:
It is very important to design a plan to care for the vulnerable, the sick and the elderly.
All of these should continue to be confined at home, in residences or in healthcare facilities. The vulnerable must still be kept in confinement for their own good!
Those who are in hospitals and health centers must receive everything in treatment that these centers know how to give and the resources must be increased to enable them to do so.
Those who are in old age residences should receive everything in treatment that these centers know how to give, although their resources must be increased to comply and extend, since they must offer more treatment and resources than usual in the past.
Those who are confined at home will have the right to be confined to one of those many available hotels that will become a kind of residence, where those confined receive more attention, food and camaraderie than would be normal being confined at home.
A free meal plan should be established for those confined in their homes and we should establish a plan for shopping for what they need. We have to take away reasons for the vulnerable forced to leave homes during their confinement.
Additionally, a home visit plan should be established providing full home services, food, medical, exercise, etc., which should be extended to residences and health centers, where it does not exist.
Why not, as television and Internet are essential especially at this time, all medical centers, residences and homes with the confined must be connected to fast Internet and, why not, they must receive a free subscription to at least one of the Pay TV channels that exist, all paid for by telecom providers and/or by governments. Now is not the time to do business with the vulnerable who are being confined for the good of all!
All these plans have a cost and with the proposed accelerated opening of the economy, these resources will be generated faster than the current path of keeping everyone confined for months, with limited and uncertain openings.
